The Workspace is a docking window that starts out on the right side of the DAQFactory window. It is your navigator for the various pieces that make up your application summarized in the next chapter. It is a standard Windows tree list similar to what you find in Windows Explorer for navigating your folders. Most of the items can be edited by left-clicking. This will either cause the main window of DAQFactory to change, or popup a window. Most items also have a popup menu that appears when you right click to allow for adding new items to your application, deleting items, renaming, etc.
Some item types, specifically Channels, Sequences, Pages and the various Preset types support groups. Groups are only used for organization of the items in the workspace and do not affect how the items are referenced from the rest of your application. To create a group, simply right click on an item you would like to put in that group and select Change Group. Since groups are only used for Workspace organization, you can give your group any name you want and are not subject to the normal name limitations for other DAQFactory items. To create additional groups, simply repeat this process.
Once you have created a group, you can drag and drop items into and between the groups. Of course you are limited to dropping like items in the group, so you can't take a Page and drop it into a group under Sequences!
To rename a group, right click on it and select Rename.
Any item that isn't in a group is actually in a group called Main. The workspace will make any item in the Main group appear as if it isn't in a group. So, to move a component out of a group you created you can either drag and drop it, or change its group to Main.
